Because of this, Lermontov grew up mostly with his grandmother. He had many different teachers, including a German pedagogue and an English teacher. One of his best teachers was a man named Colonel Capet. These teachers helped him study Greek, Latin, and many great books. This deep learning helped him become a great student in Moscow.

During his periods of exile, Lermontov produced his most enduring literary achievements. 

Lermontov's life ended abruptly due to the social customs of the Russian military officer class.
