Later, in 1967, the Amana Corporation introduced a smaller model that could sit on a kitchen counter.

In France, ownership grew from 40% in 1994 to 65% in 2004. In other places, like India, ownership has been slower. In 2013, only about 5% of Indian households owned one. However, technology is still spreading to many parts of the world.

Today, microwave ovens serve many different purposes. They are common in residential kitchens for reheating food. They are also excellent for items that burn easily, like butter or chocolate.
