His career was marked by service to powerful European monarchs. In the 1590s, he was active in Prague at the court of Emperor Rudolf II. Later, around 1600, he moved to the court of King Sigismund III Vasa in Poland. The Polish king was a great enthusiast of alchemy. Because of this interest, the king even participated in chemical experiments alongside Sendivogius. In the Wawel castle in Kraków, the specific chamber where these experiments occurred remains intact today. 
Beyond theoretical science, Sendivogius applied his knowledge to practical engineering. He worked on the design of metal foundries and mines. His international reputation even led to him serving as a diplomat starting around 1600. In his later years, he lived in Bohemia and Moravia, which are parts of the modern-day Czech Republic. The Habsburg emperor granted him lands in these regions. He eventually settled back in Prague to work near the court of Rudolf II. During this time, he gained further fame for his expertise in designing mining operations.
His scientific legacy was preserved through his extensive writings. He is credited as the author of twelve different books. His most famous work, "New Chemical Light," was published in 1604. This book provided a clear explanation of his theories regarding the "food of life" in the air. His writings were highly influential and were translated into many languages. Even famous scientists like Isaac Newton read his work. His ideas continued to be studied by scholars well into the 18th century.
Despite his early success, the end of his life was much quieter. The Thirty Years' War, which lasted from 1618 to 1648, changed the landscape of European science. During this conflict, wealthy patrons began spending their money on war rather than on chemical experimentation. This shift in funding meant that the "golden age" of alchemy was ending. As a result, Sendivogius died in a state of relative obscurity. 
Today, Sendivogius remains a figure of interest in both science and culture. He has been depicted in various forms of art and fiction. The Polish painter Jan Matejko created a famous oil painting of him demonstrating metal transmutation. He has also appeared as a character in Polish literature and television. His name even appears in modern fantasy universes, such as the "Discworld" series by Terry Pratchett. His life represents a bridge between the mystical traditions of the past and the rigorous science of the future.
