In June 1912, it was reported that they had successfully achieved this. This amazing result led to Laue winning the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1914.

He studied at several places like the University of Strassburg and the University of Berlin. At Berlin, he studied under the famous Max Planck. He later became a professor at the University of Zurich in 1912. By 1914, he was a professor at the University of Frankfurt. He spent many years teaching at the University of Berlin from 1919 to 1943. He also worked on making vacuum tubes for wireless communication in 1916.

Laue also published 12 papers and a book on this topic. He worked with the brothers Fritz and Heinz London on related research. Additionally, Laue contributed to the development of vacuum tubes. In 1916, he worked on these at the University of Würzburg for military telephony and wireless communication. He also wrote two volumes of a book regarding the theory of relativity.
Laue's educational journey took him through several major European universities. He was born on October 9, 1879, in Pfaffendorf, Germany. After passing his Abitur, he studied mathematics, physics, and chemistry at the University of Strassburg. He then attended the University of Göttingen, where he was influenced by Woldemar Voigt and Max Abraham. In 1902, he spent a semester at the University of Munich before moving to the University of Berlin. At Berlin, he studied under Max Planck. Planck had delivered his famous paper on quantum theory in December 1900. Laue earned his Ph.D. in 1903 with a thesis on interference phenomena in plane-parallel plates. He later completed his habilitation under Arnold Sommerfeld in 1906.
Throughout his life, Laue was connected to many of the most important scientists of his era. He was a close friend of Albert Einstein. This friendship helped the scientific community accept and develop the theory of relativity. In Berlin, he was part of a group of notable scientists including Walther Nernst and Fritz Haber. He also served as a trustee and later deputy director of the Kaiser Wilhelm Institute for Physics. This institute was founded in 1914 with Einstein as its director. Laue's students included Leó Szilárd and Fritz London. He even wrote a book titled Geschichte der Physik, which covers the history of physics. This book was eventually translated into seven other languages.
Laue also showed great personal courage during the rise of the Nazi party. He was a strong objector to Nazism and the movement known as Deutsche Physik. Proponents of Deutsche Physik tried to label the theory of relativity as "Jewish physics." Laue found this idea ridiculous. He and his friend Otto Hahn secretly helped persecuted scientists emigrate from Germany. He also openly opposed antisemitism, even when it led to government reprimands. For example, he attended a memorial for Fritz Haber in 1935. The government had forbidden professors from attending such events. His bravery and principles remained steady even during very difficult political times.
During World War II, Laue's Nobel Prize underwent a strange journey to stay safe. When Germany invaded Denmark, a chemist named George de Hevesy took action. To prevent the Nazis from seizing the gold, de Hevesy dissolved the gold medals of Laue and James Franck in aqua regia. This is a highly corrosive mixture of acids. The solution was hidden on a shelf in a laboratory at the Niels Bohr Institute. After the war, de Hevesy recovered the gold from the acid. The Nobel Society then used that original gold to recast the medals.
