His leadership helped stabilize Mexico after years of intense revolution.

Obregón's early life was shaped by hard work and practical thinking. He was born in 1880 in Sonora, a state near the United States. His family faced financial difficulties after their estate was confiscated in 1867. As a young man, Obregón worked as a lathe operator in a sugar mill. This experience gave him a deep respect for the rights of workers.

He later became a successful farmer growing garbanzo beans. In 1909, he invented a machine to harvest these beans. He even used a modern assembly line to manufacture his harvesters. He also lobbied for better railways and irrigation to help his business grow.

His military career began during the chaos of the Mexican Revolution. Obregón first joined the fight to support President Francisco I. Madero. In 1912, he served in the Fourth Irregular Battalion of Sonora. He quickly showed he was a military genius. He used clever tactics like surprise assaults and encircling maneuvers to win battles.

By 1914, Obregón's forces had captured important cities like Culiacán.

The revolution soon turned into a civil war between different factions. In 1915, Obregón led the Constitutionalists against the Conventionists. The Conventionists were led by Emiliano Zapata and Pancho Villa.

His administration focused on several major reforms. He pushed for educational reform and supported the Mexican muralism art movement. He also implemented moderate land reform. To help workers, he supported new labor laws. These laws were backed by the Regional Confederation of Mexican Workers. In 1923, he signed the Bucareli Treaty. This treaty clarified the rights of the Mexican government regarding U.S. oil interests. It also helped secure diplomatic recognition from the United States.

His presidency was not without internal challenges and rebellions. In 1923, his finance minister, Adolfo de la Huerta, launched a rebellion. This happened because Obregón chose Plutarco Elías Calles as his successor. Some revolutionaries felt Obregón was acting too much like the former dictator Porfirio Díaz. Obregón returned to the battlefield to defeat the uprising. During this conflict, the United States provided arms and planes to assist him. After Obregón's term ended, Calles became president in 1924. Obregón remained an influential figure behind the scenes.

Obregón's life ended abruptly during a period of political tension. In 1928, he won the election to serve a second term. However, he was assassinated by José de León Toral before he could take office.

This party later became the Institutional Revolutionary Party. It would go on to dominate Mexican politics for the rest of the 20th century.
