Isabella II was the Queen of Spain.

Isabella II was a very important leader in Spanish history.
Isabella's path to the throne was not easy or calm. Her uncle, Infante Carlos, did not believe a woman should lead the country. This disagreement caused several conflicts known as the Carlist Wars.
Life in the royal palace was often full of trouble. Isabella married Francisco de Asís, the Duke of Cádiz, in 1846.
As she grew older, Isabella faced many more challenges.
Eventually, Isabella's time as queen came to an end. In 1868, a naval mutiny in Cádiz started a revolution.
Isabella II was the Queen of Spain from 1833 until 1868. She holds a unique place in history as the only queen regnant of a unified Spain.
Isabella's early years were defined by intense political conflict. Her uncle, Infante Carlos, refused to accept a female sovereign. This disagreement led to the Carlist Wars, a series of conflicts between supporters of Isabella and supporters of Carlos.
Her personal life and reputation became major sources of political instability. In 1846, the Moderate Party arranged her marriage to Francisco de Asís, the Duke of Cádiz. The marriage was unhappy and faced many public rumors.
Isabella also faced direct physical danger during her reign. In February 1852, an ordained priest named Merino attempted to attack her. He approached her while she was leaving the Royal Palace.
Political unrest continued to shape her years as a leader. In 1854, a military coup known as the Vicalvarada took place in Vicálvaro.
In 1857, Isabella gave birth to a male heir named Alfonso. He was known by the nickname "the Bully" due to rumors regarding his biological father. His birth changed the line of succession, as he became the Prince of Asturias. Despite the birth of a son, the political situation in Spain continued to decline. Opponents of the Queen began organizing in secret. In 1866, exiled democratic and progressive forces met in Belgium to form the Pact of Ostend. Their goal was to work together to overthrow the Isabelline monarchy.
The end of Isabella's reign came through revolution. In September 1868, a naval mutiny began in Cádiz. This event started the Glorious Revolution.
