He is widely recognized as the "face of the Food Network." His presence brings a rowdy, mass-market culture to American food television. His programs specifically attract more male viewers than any other shows on the network. Beyond cooking, Fieri is a businessman who licenses his name to restaurants globally. He also manages various diverse culinary ventures, from cruise ship eateries to delivery-only kitchens.

Fieri's career began with early entrepreneurial efforts in his youth. At age ten, he and his father built an "Awesome Pretzel" bicycle cart. He sold pretzels from this cart to begin earning his own money. He also worked washing dishes to finance a trip to France. While studying in France as a foreign exchange student, he developed a deep interest in food. He later attended the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. There, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in hotel management in 1990.

His restaurant career involves many different styles and locations. In 1996, he and Steve Gruber opened Johnny Garlic's, a California Pasta Grill, in Santa Rosa. He also co-developed Tex Wasabi's, which combined barbecue and sushi. In 2012, he opened Guy's American Kitchen and Bar in New York City's Times Square. Although it received a very scathing review from The New York Times, it remained successful in sales. It appeared on a list of top 100 independent restaurants for four consecutive years before closing in 2017.

Fieri has expanded his brand through various unique partnerships. In 2011, he partnered with Carnival Cruise Lines to create Guy's Burger Joint. As of October 2017, there were 19 such restaurants on the fleet.
