In the 1700s, the steam engine changed how we use coal. Coal helped run ships and locomotives. By 2005, coal provided 40% of the world's electricity.

Because of these environmental concerns, there is a global move toward renewable energy. This includes biofuels, which come from biomass like plants that can be replenished quickly.
