Fallibilism means our beliefs might turn out to be false. Because of this, our ideas are always open to change. This is called corrigibilism. It means we can fix our thoughts when we find new facts. 
Some people think we can reach perfection through constant learning. Thomas Hobbes called this "infinite progress." Other thinkers, like Immanuel Kant, thought even species might grow toward perfection. Fallibilism is not the same as skepticism. Skeptics often think we cannot know anything at all. He wanted to find rules that could justify the process of falsification. However, Lakatos pointed out a potential problem in Popper's theory. He argued that the principle of falsification itself cannot be justified without using induction. Induction is the process of using specific observations to make general rules. Despite their disagreements, both Popper and Lakatos moved between rationalism and fallibilism. Their work helped define how modern science approaches new evidence.
Fallibilism is often confused with other philosophical ideas, such as skepticism. 
Today, fallibilism is a widely accepted view in many fields. Most modern philosophers hold some form of fallibilist view. They recognize that scientific claims must be revisable as new data appears. However, some thinkers still argue for infallibilism in specific areas. Historically, philosophers like Plato and René Descartes sought truths that were impossible to doubt. Examples include logical truths, such as saying a person is either a Democrat or they are not. Others point to immediate appearances, like the feeling of seeing a blue patch. Despite these arguments, the fallibilist perspective remains a powerful tool for navigating an uncertain world.
