He designed the Motor of Difference and the Analytical Engine to solve calculation errors. Between 1822 and 1823, mathematician Ada Lovelace wrote the first instructions for these engines. These instructions are now considered the first computer program. Lovelace even predicted the social impact of such machines. Later, in 1945, Vannevar Bush published "As We May Think." He proposed a device called a "memex" to help people store and link information. His vision provided the conceptual framework for the World Wide Web and social media.
