One of the most significant partnerships in equestrian history involved Dujardin and a Dutch Warmblood gelding named Valegro. Originally, Hester and co-owner Roly Luard intended for Dujardin to develop Valegro for Hester to ride. However, Dujardin competed with him in their first Grand Prix event in 2011. This pair went on to win gold at the European Dressage Championship in Rotterdam. They also secured the FEI World Cup Grand Prix at London Olympia in 2011. During that event, they set a new World Record for the Olympic Grand Prix discipline. Their score reached 88.022% during this competition.

The success of Dujardin and Valegro continued through several major international stages. In 2012, they won the World Cup freestyle event at Olympia with a score of 87.875%. They also represented Great Britain at the 2012 Summer Olympics. In the first round, they set a new Olympic record with a score of 83.784%. They later won the team gold medal and the individual gold medal. Their individual performance included music featuring Land of Hope and Glory and the chimes of Big Ben. Dujardin and Valegro also won double individual gold medals at the 2016 Rio Olympics. This achievement made her the first British woman to retain an individual Olympic title.

This victory marked their fourth consecutive World Title. They remain the only competition pair to have ever held four consecutive world titles. Dujardin decided to retire Valegro in December 2016 at the age of 14. His final performance took place at the Olympia London International Horse Show.
