Starr became a national figure known for her striking red hair and high energy. Her stage presence was so intense that she earned the nickname "The Hottest Blaze in Burlesque."
One of her most famous routines was a comedic act called "the exploding couch." To perform this, Starr would lie down on a couch during her act. She would then press a secret button hidden on the furniture. This action caused smoke to emerge from between her legs. Immediately after, a fan and a bright floodlight would activate. This caused red silk streamers to blow in the light. The streamers were shaped to look like flickering flames. This gave the appearance that the couch had suddenly burst into fire.
