A saddle wagon uses closely spaced posts to keep the round bales from rolling off the trailer.

Baling is also essential for creating silage, which is fermented animal feed. This process involves wrapping high-moisture grass in plastic film to create an airtight seal. This seal allows the grass to ferment, which preserves it for feeding. Operators may use a bale wrapper that spins the bale on a turntable to apply the plastic. Alternatively, they can use a rotating bale spear to apply the film. This method creates a row of bales that are pressed together to maintain a hermetic seal. While the plastic usage is high, this method is much easier to manage than traditional silo bags.
