Some local ministers did not like her ideas. They thought her teachings were wrong. This led to a big disagreement. In 1637, she had a trial. She was found guilty. The leaders told her to leave the colony.
Anne and her followers moved to Rhode Island. They helped start a new town called Portsmouth.

Anne Hutchinson was a significant religious figure in the early American colonies. 
Anne was born Anne Marbury in July 1591 in Alford, Lincolnshire, England. 
As a young adult, Anne married William Hutchinson, a fabric merchant from Alford. 
Anne began hosting weekly meetings in her home to discuss recent sermons. 

In 1634, the Hutchinson family emigrated to the Massachusetts Bay Colony. They traveled aboard the ship Griffin, the same vessel used by John Cotton. Anne arrived with her husband and ten of their surviving children. They settled in Boston and built a large timber-frame house on the Shawmut Peninsula. 
The religious tension culminated in the Antinomian Controversy. 

After her husband died, Anne moved further south toward Dutch lands. This move was prompted by threats of Massachusetts annexing Rhode Island. In August 1643, during Kieft's War, a violent conflict occurred.
