Archbishop Thomas Cranmer declared Henry's first marriage void. He then declared Henry and Anne's marriage valid. This caused a major break between the Church of England and the Catholic Church. The King took control of the English Church. Anne was crowned Queen on June 1, 1533. On September 7, she gave birth to a daughter. This child would eventually become Queen Elizabeth I.

Anne's time as Queen was marked by difficulty. Henry hoped for a son, but Anne had three miscarriages. By March 1536, Henry was already courting Jane Seymour.

In April 1536, Henry had Anne investigated for high treason. She was arrested and sent to the Tower of London.

A jury included her former betrothed, Henry Percy. They also included her uncle, Thomas Howard. She was convicted on May 15. She was beheaded four days later.

Many modern historians find the charges against Anne unconvincing. The claims of adultery and plotting against the King are viewed with doubt.
