He led the Irish government for 21 years. He also helped make the Constitution of Ireland in 1937. This is a set of rules for the country. Later, he served as the President of Ireland. He held this role from 1959 to 1973. He was a very important person in Irish history.

After his release, de Valera became a leader in the War of Independence. 
De Valera's time in power was marked by many different roles.
