Alberto Ascari was a great car racer.

He was born in Italy. His father was also a famous racer. Alberto loved racing so much. He even sold his school books to pay for it.

He drove fast cars for a team called Ferrari. He won two big world titles. He was the first driver to win two titles.

Alberto was very good at his job. He was known for being very careful. He won many races in Europe. He even won a race called the Mille Miglia.

Sadly, Alberto died in a car crash. It happened while he was testing a car. People still remember him as a star.

Tragedy struck in May 1955 at the Monza track. Ascari went to watch a friend test a car. He decided to try a few laps himself. He was wearing street clothes and a different helmet. While driving fast, his car skidded and flipped over. Sadly, Ascari died from his injuries during the test. A part of the Monza track was later named the Variante Ascari to honor him.

Tragedy occurred during a testing session in May 1955. Ascari was at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza to watch a friend. He decided to try a few laps in a Ferrari 750 Monza. He was wearing street clothes and a different helmet. On the third lap, his car skidded and somersaulted twice. Ascari died from his injuries a few minutes later.

The racing community honored his memory at Monza. The high-speed corner where he crashed was renamed the Curva del Vialone. It was later replaced by a chicane called the Variante Ascari. Ascari remains a significant figure in racing history. He is the last Italian to win the World Drivers' Championship. He remains Ferrari's only Italian champion.
