Akbar's empire was incredibly wealthy and culturally rich. Under his rule, the economy tripled in size and wealth. 
Akbar also worked to create religious unity in his diverse empire. He abolished the sectarian tax to support his non-Muslim subjects. He even appointed them to high military and civil positions. 
Akbar's death in 1605 marked the end of a transformative era. He was succeeded by his son, Prince Salim, who became Emperor Jahangir. . The foundations he built lasted for a long time. His centralized government and economic strength continued to support the Mughal dynasty. The cultural styles he helped create remained influential for generations. Akbar remains a central figure in the history of the Indian subcontinent.
